From early in the 17th century France has claimed the island and used it as a stop-over place for its ships plying the waters to the East Indies. A small island (39 miles by 28 miles) it holds less than a million inhabitants. It is often called the mountain island due to its mountainous and volcanic interior.
The residents of La Reunion come from a number of ethnic groups which are blended together. Indians, Asians, Africans, Arabs and Europeans are all represented in the population.
The Church has not enjoyed the rapid growth rate on La Reunion that it has on the African Continent.
There are 4 churches and 4 church units there. There are usually between 8 and 12 missionaries assigned to La Reunion.
Sister Merrill from Utah, USA and Sister Kim from South Korea will serve in La Reunion
