Our neighborhood Batik 'Factory'

Across the street from the MTC is a small family cottage industry batik shop. Prosper is the owner. Evelyn his wife and Wisdom his son all work together

First the wax is placed on the fabric in areas
where they don't want the dye to penetrate on the first dip into the vats

This can be done with a brush or a stamp that they carve to order

After the dying in old bath tubs of different colors of dye
the wax is removed by dipping the fabric into boiling hot water

And after two color baths and removing the wax voila!
